Artist's statement: Rare-chairs came into being in 1990 to rekindle interest in the traditional ways of making Windsor chairs. Considered one of the most challenging forms of woodwork, using hand tools only, Howard has been preserving this disappearing craft by making commissioned pieces and conducting chairmaking courses at his rural workshop in the Upper Hunter

Artist's statement: I started carving wood 5 years ago after being inspired by an Austrian Sculptor visiting Gloucester on his travels. Some of my work can be seen in the Gloucester district park playground area including native animals, Ned Kelly's, horses, eagles and unusual tables and chairs amongst many other things.

Artist's statement: I was inspired to learn the art of creating handmade felt from a dear friend Mrs. Margaret Lee. I am a member of the Canberra Region Feltmakers Inc. The art of felting has been used around the world for many centuries to make clothing, shelter and art. I love to work with fine merino fleeces to create gloves, scarves, hats and clothing and enjoy the idea of continuing a traditional craft.

Artist's statement: Shane Stenhouse grew up on Cattle Stations in the Northern Territory. After completing his boarding school education in NSW he pursued a career in Thoroughbred Education and now practises as an Equine Dentist. In his spare time Shane handcrafts picture frames, framed mirrors and furniture from recycled timber and decorative recycled iron/pressed tin.
