This is the third Collections exhibition presented by the Scone Arts & Crafts. Scott Cooper, secretary of Scone Arts & Crafts Inc’s, said one of the primary motivations behind the Collections series was to provide an opportunity to promote the Scone Arts & Craft’s members. Whereas in the past, members may have entered a small number of works in the Scone Arts & Craft’s Members Exhibition and the Scone Art Prize, Collections require artists to display a large body of work, enabling the artist to tell a story about themselves and their art. Predominately, the Collections series features members of the organisation, however there is also opportunity for artists from many backgrounds to be invited to exhibit, allowing much broader scope of creative expression from beyond the region.

This Collections June 2010 exhibition features:

Linda Camac
Ambidextrous and gifted from an early age her younger years were spent doodling and sketching with a graphite pencil that to this day remains her favourite weapon of choice. A poverty-stricken childhood has made her appreciate the immediacy and pleasure of drawing and with the many kinds of graphite available today this technique is even more limitless.

Linda loves to render tiny details, texture, quirks of nature and offbeat looks at subjects that fire the humour in her and make the titles of her paintings into wordfests. Favoured media predominately used is graphite, watercolour and Aquarelle (watercolour pencils). *

Alex Lavroff
Alex is the Winner 2009 Mosman Art Prize. His former career as a brilliant commercial illustrator has taken him now to his great love of fine art. His latest contribution is the acclaimed ocean pools with people at the baths centralised predominantly at the Bondi Beach Icebergs. *

Margaret Marshall
Margaret has been a china painter for many years. She was then introduced to Water Colour and Pastel, and was fascinated with the ability to blend with colours. She has also been to many art schools with great tutors. Water colours will always be her foremost love. *

Roberta Wiseman
Roberta holds a Graduate Diploma in Art, A Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) and an Associate Diploma in Creative Arts and Crafts gained through the University of Newcastle. Her awards at exhibitions have been consistant and numerous, these being for Water Colour, Oil, Drawing, Mixed Media, Portraiture and Sculpture. Commissions have included figurative and landscape interior murals.

Roberta has experience in teaching, judging and curating country art shows. Her love of art is passionate, and she continues her studies at home and overseas. *

Scone Arts & Craft Centre

Another motivator for the Collections was to raise the profile of the Scone Arts & Crafts and to promote the Scone Arts & Crafts Centre.

The Scone Arts and Crafts Centre was the St Mary’s Catholic Church, opened in 1861 and used as a church until 1925. The Scone Arts & Crafts Group formed in 1972 and then proceeded to purchase the building. Renovations since have included the addition of the newer section, porch and the Pot House at the rear. With beautiful art works regularly displayed and the centre being open most weekends, the centre is fast becoming a local attraction and a popular venue to hire.
